The Finnish Spitz is one of the group of small hunting Spitz breeds and as the name implies was first bred selectively in Finland.

In Finland the breed is called SUOMENPYSTYKORVA which means "Finnish prick-eared dog.

Finnish Spitz are superb house dogs and guards. They are excellent with children and are marvellous pets and companions. They are small enough to fit comfortably into a modern house but have the personality and the temper of a large dog.

However, they must be gently but very firmly handled during puppy hood as their ability to take over the household is unsurpassed.
The Finnish Spitz characteristics are eagerness to hunt, courage, tempered with caution, fidelity and intelligence.

My family and I live together with our 5 Finnish Spitz Bitches in Evergem (near Ghent - Belgium ). All 5 live with us in the house.

All my dogs are trained in obedience and agility, just for the fun of it. Some of them score good results in obedience and agility competitions. They like hunting too.
